Three men have been arrested in Rotherham after police discovered two 'sophisticated' cannabis grows in the town.

Officers raided two homes on Goosebutt Court in Parkgate on Tuesday (March 3) after receiving a tip off.

80 plants were found across two rooms inside the first property, with a 51 year old man being arrested on suspicion of producing a class B drug.

Inside the second property police found a fake wall concealing the entrance to a cannabis grow inside the basement, with more plants found in the loft behind a concealed hatch.

In total 90 plants were seized, along with 600 seedlings.

Two men, aged 30 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis.

Inspector Lesley Fretwell, of South Yorkshire Police, said:

“Both these warrants are part of Operation Grow which is the ongoing work to tackle cannabis grows in Rotherham. Cannabis cultivations are often linked to organised crime, and it is important that we locate and dismantle these farms.

“Not only do they fund illegal activities, but cannabis grows can significantly impact the quality of life for residents and nearby businesses. Electricity is often bypassed within these enterprises – posing a serious fire risk for neighbouring properties.

“I would urge the public to report any concerns to us. Remember to look out for the signs that a property is potentially being used for illegal activity.”
