Call for pedestrian crossing on “dangerous” Sheffield road near major roundabout

Residents of Handsworth in Sheffield are calling for a pedestrian crossing near the Asda superstore in the neighbourhood because of hazards caused by “dangerous” driving.

It asks for the council to “carry out an urgent pedestrian safety assessment” at Handsworth Roundabout, where Handsworth Road meets Sheffield Parkway.
The petition states: “This junction is used daily by children travelling to local schools, families, elderly residents, disabled people, and members of the public accessing local amenities, including Asda Sheffield Supercentre.
“The lack of a safe crossing point, combined with high traffic speeds and poor driver signalling, makes crossing the road dangerous.
“We ask the council to assess this location and install a safe pedestrian crossing or other appropriate safety measures.”
The petition has been launched by Simmone Mendez. It runs on the council website until August 16.
