Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the signing of centre-back Neill Byrne on a two-year contract, after a successful loan spell at the Eco-Power Stadium.

The 33-year-old defender becomes a permanent addition to the squad after leaving Bradford City as a free agent.

Byrne made 14 appearances for Grant McCann's team, contributing to five clean sheets and aiding Rovers' progress up the League One table.

McCann said: "The importance of him coming in January was huge for the changing room. Our form from January onwards was excellent – it was top-six form – and Neill played a huge part in that."

Byrne told the Doncaster Rovers website: "I really enjoyed my time here. It’s a great group of lads, we went on a really good run. I enjoyed playing under the gaffer. I like the environment, where I can grow, pass on experiences, but also play well myself."
