A man who carried out a knife-point burglary at a family home in Bolsover has been jailed for eight years and three months

Jack Holland, 28, of Howard Street, Rotherham, admitted to entering the family’s home on the evening of October 30.

The family were inside when Holland and another man, both wearing face coverings, began smashing the glass of their bi-fold doors with a crowbar to gain entry.

Once inside, Holland pushed one of the family members against a wall and held a machete to his neck, according to police reports.

The pair then stole a significant amount of money and the keys to the family’s Range Rover, which they used to flee the scene.

Later that evening, officers located the stolen Range Rover in Dinnington.

While recovering the vehicle, a Volkswagen sped past the scene, prompting officers to pursue it.

Inside the car, they found two men along with cash, a crowbar, and a burner phone.

Police reviewed CCTV footage, conducted forensic checks, and analysed messages on the mobile phone, leading to the arrest of both men.

The evidence confirmed that Holland was the aggressor who had threatened the victim at knife-point during the burglary.

Holland, who gave a no-comment interview, was charged with aggravated burglary and sentenced at Derby Crown Court on December 10.

Inspector Ryan McVeigh, of Derbyshire Police, said:

“We welcome the sentence and are pleased to see that Holland has been taken off our streets and locked up for a very long time"

“This case is a prime example of how swift action from response officers, coupled with careful analysis of evidence by a specialist team, leads to offenders being brought to justice."

“Burglary has far-reaching effects for victims, and I would like to reassure the public that our dedicated team of officers will continue to work round-the-clock to target offenders to ensure they feel the full force of the law."
