Billy Sharp 'open to opportunities' as he's set to leave Doncaster Rovers
Billy Sharp is set to wear a Doncaster Rovers shirt at the Eco Power Stadium for the last time on Saturday.
The 40-year-old is set to leave the club as his contract expires.
A statement on the club website said:
"As the 2025–26 season enters its final week, Doncaster Rovers prepare to mark the final home appearance of one of the most influential figures in the club’s history.
"This Saturday, against Stevenage, Billy Sharp will wear his red and white shirt at the Eco-Power Stadium for the last time. With his contract due to expire this summer, the occasion brings to a close an association spanning four spells, more than twenty years, and some of the most defining moments in Rovers’ recent past.
"His connection with the Club began in September 2009, arriving on loan from Sheffield United. The impact was immediate. Fifteen goals in 35 appearances quickly made the decision clear, and Billy became a permanent Rovers player, the beginning of a relationship that would endure across multiple eras.
"Throughout his career, Billy Sharp’s record in the English game has been exceptional. He has played and scored in every division of the Football League pyramid, from League Two to the Premier League. In November 2025, he reached a remarkable personal milestone, making his 700th career league appearance against Lincoln City. In December, he added another memorable chapter with a hat-trick in the Vertu Trophy against Chesterfield.
"Yet, Billy’s legacy at Doncaster Rovers extends far beyond statistics.
"Across each spell at the Club, he has represented Rovers with unwavering commitment, professionalism and pride. His leadership, experience and connection with supporters have made him a constant reference point both on and off the pitch, and a figure synonymous with the values of the Football Club.
"The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Billy Sharp for the goals, the dedication, and for everything he has given during his time in red and white. His contributions have created memories that will live long in the history of Doncaster Rovers Football Club."
