Two legged delivery robots hit the streets of Barnsley in new trial

Two legged delivery robots have hit the streets of Barnsley, as part of a trial between a robotics firm and Evri.
In a European first the bots, made by Refined Robotics, will make short distance parcel deliveries in the South Yorkshire town.
As opposed to the six wheeled robots already deployed in Leeds and Sheffield, these two legged machines can climb stairs and pavements, and have an easier time getting over uneven ground.
The bot stands around waist high, weighs around 15kg and can travel at speeds of up to 4mph.
The robots will be remotely monitored while they make deliveries and can also be piloted directly by Evri drivers.
According to Evri, the trial is not aimed at replacing drivers or jobs, but at seeing how the bots can support couriers.
