Barnsley man who stabbed shop worker in attempt to steal £50 jailed for eight years
The worker was stabbed 20 times but survived his injuries
A Barnsley man who stabbed a man over 20 times in a shop, during an attempted robbery, has been jailed for eight years.
27 year old Alex Hill, of Balk Lane, carried out the attack as he stole just £50 from the business in May.
The shop worker survived his injuries.
Hill later handed himself into police.
Detective Constable Chris Shirt, of South Yorkshire Police, said:
"This was a horrific incident and a frenzied, prolonged attack during which a man could have potentially lost his life.
"This was clearly a calculated attack with Hill entering the shop with a knife in his possession.
"Once his image was circulated publicly he had no choice but to hand himself in.
"There is no place for a violent attack such as this in Barnsley. I would like to thank the public for their support during our investigation."
