New Good Food Pantries open in Gawber and Grimethorpe
Barnsley expands affordable food hubs for community support
Two new Good Food Pantries have been launched in Barnsley, aiming to offer affordable and sustainable food options to residents in Gawber, Grimethorpe, and surrounding areas.
The pantries, located at St Paul’s Parish Hall in Gawber and Grimethorpe Library, are managed by enthusiastic local volunteers committed to providing quality food and reducing waste.
Barnsley’s Good Food Pantries are accessible to everyone, helping to create stronger and more connected communities while offering low-cost food solutions.
For just £5 per shop, visitors can purchase a variety of everyday food essentials, supporting their community and reducing food waste.
The addition of these pantries increases Barnsley’s total network to 12, enhancing the borough's affordable food access.
Councillor Stan Bryan expressed pride in the cooperative efforts leading to the network's growth.
"The opening of the new pantries at Gawber and Grimethorpe is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local communities, volunteers, and organisations work together," Bryan said.
He encouraged residents to explore pantry offerings and connect through community initiatives.
While the pantries are available to all, they also aim to assist those facing cost-of-living challenges, emphasizing the importance of community support.
