11 charged over mass brawl outside Sheffield community centre last year

A fight broke out between two groups at an event for the Eritrean community last year

11 more people have been charged in connection with a mass brawl outside of a Sheffield community centre last May.

An event marking Eritrean independence turned violent, with hundreds of people involved in what police call 'large-scale disorder', including fighting with weapons, outside the Pakistan Muslim Centre last May 25.

It's believed around 200 people had gathered at the scene when clashes broke out, causing extensive damage to the building and nearby cars.

Several people were seriously injured. Among those charged today are:

Rezene Girmaey, 36, of Brignall Way, Leeds - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Dawit Habte, 23, of Burngreave Street, Sheffield - violent disorder.

Hagos Kahase, 34, of Aysgarth Drive, Leeds- violent disorder.

Samiel Tadese, 25, of Victoria Dock Road, London - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Simon Gebrue, 24, of Galey Green, Thurrock - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Zerit Tesafi, 36, of Princess Road, Manchester - violent disorder, three counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and four counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Haben Kidane, 34, of Eldon Street, Barnsley - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mokenon Petros, 39, of Inkerman House, Newtown Shopping Centre, Birmingham - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Adnahom Negasi, 47, of Hawthorn Road, Leeds - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and four counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Robel Gerezgiher, 32, of Belvedere Court, Leeds - violent disorder, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Liya Mogos, 28, of Routh Court, Hounslow - violent disorder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

All have been released on bail, ahead of further court appearances next month.
