A woman from Doncaster has been sentenced to over five years in prison after being caught trying to smuggle drugs worth £250,000 into HMP Lindholme.

Michala Stubbs, who worked in the prison’s education department, was detained during a staff search in October 2023.

She was found in possession of half a kilogram of drugs, including cocaine and ketamine, which she intended to give to a prisoner.

Sheffield Crown Court heard that Stubbs had claimed she was coerced into smuggling the drugs because of threats made to her children.

However, investigations revealed this was untrue, with analysis of her mobile phone showing she had sent herself a text message to use as evidence of duress if she was discovered.

Further evidence from CCTV footage supported the charges

Stubbs, 40, of The Crescent, was sentenced to five years and two months behind bars for possession with intent to supply cocaine and ketamine.

Detective Constable Scott Jarvis from South Yorkshire Police, said: "Stubbs betrayed the trust given to her as someone employed to work within one of our prisons."

"She desperately tried to cover her tracks but her story just didn't add up and a thorough investigation led to the truth being revealed.

"The conveyance of any prohibited article into prisons poses a serious risk to both staff and prisoners, and can trigger instances of violence and disorder.

"Prisons must remain free of criminality and we remain committed to tackling this behaviour and ensuring that anyone responsible for committing these crimes will be dealt with by the full force of the law."
