A woman has been jailed for eight years after seriously injuring a fellow prisoner by slashing her face with a disposable razor blade at HMP Peterborough.
The victim, aged 36, was left with a 10cm cut to her face and required hospital treatment following the attack, which happened on 9 April last year.
Jade Mason, 39, who was on remand at the time, later admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent. She was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday (6 May).
Mason, of Eastfield Road, Eastfield, Peterborough, had been in custody for a series of offences, including making a threat to damage a petrol station, assaulting a security guard, and theft from a Sainsbury’s in Oxney Road, Peterborough.
She also admitted a separate prison assault from October last year, when she threw a cup of boiling water mixed with sugar over another inmate. For that offence, she was given an additional 15-month sentence.
Mason further admitted five counts of theft committed between 2 and 21 May last year across Peterborough. She received one month for each of those, to run concurrently with the other sentences.
Detective Constable Kevin Poole said: “Mason carried out her attack with the clear intention of causing serious harm. Violent behaviour like this is inexcusable and has no doubt significantly impacted the victims, so I hope this sentence provides them with some reassurance.”
