Spalding Play Parks Slammed Over Safety and Poor Condition
Councillors call for urgent repairs as working group investigates ‘dire’ state of facilities
A number of play parks in Spalding have been described as being in a “dire” condition, with councillors raising concerns about health and safety risks for children and families.
Members of Spalding Town Forum have set up a working group to review all the parks, after several councillors visited sites and found broken, rusty or missing equipment.
At a meeting on Wednesday January 14th Council James Le Sage said some parks were badly in need of repair and urged the forum to set aside funding to refurbish those most in need before a major shake-up changes the local council structure.
He and other councillors, including Manzur Hasan and Ingrid Sheard, said urgent maintenance was required and stressed the importance of safe, well-maintained spaces for children.
Forum chair Council Rob Gibson admitted there wasn’t enough money to fix all the parks, but said a list was being drawn up to help decide which sites should take priority.
South Holland District Council’s Henry Bingham defended the authority’s approach, saying inspections are carried out weekly and a programme of works is underway to repaint equipment and replace fences and gates.
The full list of parks and possible repairs will be considered at a future meeting.
