Spalding darts star fronts new campaign to reduce cigarette litter
According to Keep Britain Tidy, the issue is three times worse in Spalding than the national average
A new campaign has launched to try and reduce cigarette butt litter in Spalding, by using talking bins.
According to Keep Britain Tidy, the issue is three times worse in the Lincolnshire town than the national average.
Scott ‘Shaggy’ Williams, semi-finalist at last year's World Darts Championship, is fronting the initiative.
He's now the voice of several new bins which shout 'bullseye' when a cigarette is disposed of.
"The Talking Bin was special," said Scott 'Shaggy' Williams.
"It's nice to hear my voice. It's weird, but I actually love it and if it does help in any way, then I'm really happy."
"Spalding is one of the worse in the UK for cigarette butt litter, so if I can help in that, especially with the darts scenario, and darts and cigarettes go hand in hand.
The bins are part of a three month trial and have been placed outside pubs where cigarette litter is often at it's worst.
Bespoke dartboards have also been installed at many of Spalding's pubs, hoping to serve as a reminder for smokers to make sure they dispose of their cigarette butts responsibly.
"It's great be able to get that perception out there and to get some knowledge to people about the cigarette butt litter," said Williams.
"To make them realize that it's not okay just to flick a butt - put them in the bin!"
