Major road improvements are set to get under way in Stamford next month, with a half-mile stretch of Ryhall Road due to be rebuilt.

The scheme - starting on Monday 8 September - will also see traffic lights replaced at two pedestrian crossings, near Melbourne Road and St George’s Avenue.

Night-time closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am on weekdays for up to six weeks, with temporary lights during the day.

The works cover Ryhall Road from the Uffington Road Roundabout to Regency Crescent, with a signed diversion via the A6121, Raymond Mays Way, the A15 and the A1175.

Highways boss Karen Cassar says the scale of the project will make it “a very big undertaking” but the upgrades will improve the road surface and crossing facilities for years to come.

She added: “The diversion route for the night-time closures is roughly 25 miles, so quite long.

"That is because our highways team can only use like-for-like roads for diversion routes, meaning a closed A-road can only be diverted using other A-roads.

"Using B or C roads could lead to HGVs passing through local villages late at night, which would be a huge disruption for residents.

“Despite this, the site team will be maintaining access for residents and businesses throughout the works to help keep disruption down.”
