Schools in and around Peterborough set to benefit from additional government funding
Six schools in the area have been awarded the funding
Six schools in and around Peterborough have welcomed news that they will receive government funding to improve their on-site buildings.
The King’s (The Cathedral) School, Gunthorpe Primary School and Werrington Primary School in Peterborough, alongside John Clare Primary School in Helpston, Wittering Primary School and Abbey College in Ramsey, have all been granted financial support through the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), a programme of investment in the condition of schools across England.
Andrew Pakes, MP for Peterborough, welcomed the announcement saying: “Young people in the city deserve the best start in life which is why this extra investment for local schools is so important.
He added: “This is practical investment in our communities, improving classrooms, cutting energy bills and giving staff the decent facilities they need to do their jobs.”
Sam Carling, MP for North West Cambridgeshire, echoed those sentiments:
“Every child deserves to learn in a building that is safe, well maintained and fit for purpose,” he said.
“Parents rightly expect schools to be places where children can focus on learning, rather than staff having to worry about the condition of the buildings around them.”
The fund forms part of a national package worth more than £450 million which aims to improve educational buildings at some 684 schools and colleges by making repairs to vital infrastructure like roofs, heating systems and electrical apparatus.
Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson said the investment is part of the government’s wider plans to improve the condition of school estates in order to ensure children can learn fit-for-purpose buildings:
“Parents expect their children to learn in a safe, warm environment. It’s what children deserve, and it is what we are delivering,” she said.
“This investment is about more than just buildings – it’s about showing children that their education matters, their futures matter, and this government is determined to give them the best possible start in life.”
The Condition Improvement Fund is one part of more than £2.1 billion being invested this year to improve the condition of schools and colleges across England.
