Rutland’s flag will fly in a new Westminster spot this year to mark the county’s annual day.

MP for Rutland and Stamford Alicia Kearns (Con) has requested the flag fly in the New Palace Yard part of the Westminster complex rather than its usual place in Parliament Square.

New Palace Yard is parliament’s most famous spot in front of Big Ben and is visited by millions of people each year.

She said: “Rutland Day is a wonderful celebration of our communities and all things Rutland so I’m enormously proud to see our gold and green colours flying in Parliament on this special day, especially when the future of our County is in doubt.

“I made the request to Mr Speaker to fly our flag, and I’m very grateful to him for agreeing so I can make my own small contribution to our celebrations.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to represent our beautiful part of the world, there is no doubt we

live up to our motto ‘multum in parvo’, and every visitor to Westminster will see our flag flying and hopefully learn a little more about our special county.”

Rutland Day is on Saturday, September 13, and as it falls on a weekend, the flag will fly from Friday (September 12) throughout the weekend.
