Rutland and Stamford MP Takes Action as Unemployment Rises
Alicia Kearns launches Jobs and Careers Fair with over 30 employers to help jobseekers and businesses
Rutland and Stamford’s MP Alicia Kearns says urgent action is needed to support people as unemployment spikes locally and across the country.
Speaking ahead of her Jobs and Careers Fair in Stamford, she highlighted the tough year many have faced when it comes to finding work.
“We have over thirty businesses coming together. Everything from companies that engineer giant combustion engines, plastics manufacturers, haulage, food, the military, the police—you name it. We have a real mix of employers coming together,” Alicia said.
She added, “Unemployment is sadly up locally and across the country, and businesses have told me that they're really struggling actually, in terms of being able to offer jobs."
"If you feel you're in a bit of a rut with your job or you want to change careers completely, you're looking for an apprenticeship or you're at school and just thinking where you might want to go next—young or old—there are lots of opportunities for people.”
Alicia stressed the importance of events like this for the community:
“I don't think people realise just how many different types of jobs there are, and particularly when people are having a really hard time finding employment at the moment and unemployment's up. I think it's important for me to try and do what I can.”
