A former officer at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire, has been jailed for engaging in a relationship with convicted murderer John Otugade.
Rebecca Green, aged 29 and from Lincolnshire, was sentenced to one year and four months in prison for wilful misconduct in public office at Cambridge Crown Court.
Her relationship with Otugade, who is serving a 25-year sentence for murder, began in October 2022.
Suspicions regarding Green's conduct arose in spring 2023, leading to an investigation and Otugade's transfer to HMP Belmarsh.
Messages on Green's phone and a contact named "partner" on Otugade's approved list demonstrated the inappropriate relationship.
Detective Constable Tom Adams underscored Green's serious breach of duties as a prison officer, stressing its implications on safety and security within the prison.
Adams remarked that the sentence reflects the gravity with which police and courts view misconduct in public office.
