Plans for 650 homes on East of England showground approved
City Councillors approved the homes last night
Plans to build 650 homes on the East of England Showground have been approved by councillors.
Last night, Peterborough City Councillors heard the proposals by Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG), the company behind the plans, after they were initially turned down last year.
The showground has been home to Peterborough Panthers Speedway team for over 50 years, and the approval has been met with disappointment from those who say it will be a loss for the area.
Concerns had been raised, with a reporter from Peterborough City Council reflecting that the NHS confirmed there is 'no capacity within the existing health infrastructure to absorb additional growth' and siting extra sites would be needed.
AEPG has previously said it's "not commercially viable" to continue running speedway beyond last season, citing reason such as falling attendances and less events held on the site.#
Last night, the Council's Appeals and Planning Review committee members voted by a majority to overturn their council's previous decision, four months ago, to reject the plans for the homes.
