Fresh calls are being made to turn Peterborough into a must-see destination, as the city's Mayor Paul Bristow puts forward plans for a new tourism brand.

The aim is to encourage visitors to plan longer stays and explore more attractions in the area.

Pep Cipriano from Peterborough Positive believes the city has what it takes to be the perfect base for tourists.

He says, "I definitely think Peterborough is definitely a weekend stay.

We need to start to become that destination, that place where you can base yourself here because it's relatively good value to stay here and then use it as a base to travel around the region.

Because you live here, you don't necessarily see what your gems are, you take them for granted.

But generally speaking, when people come into Peterborough, they're very, very impressed."

Pep adds that local pride is just as important as attracting new visitors.

"What we need to work on is people who live here more and make sure they're impressed with where they're from and what's available on their doorstep."

"I think when you live here and you see that more and more people are coming into your city, it just gives you that kind of bit of confidence that people know where we are and they know that it's a city that everybody wants to utilise and make the most of and enjoy."

The push comes as leaders look for ways to boost the local economy and make Peterborough a place people want to visit—and stay.
