Peterborough stretch of A47 to close for four months
Its for maintenance works
One of Peterborough’s busiest trunk roads is set for months of overnight closures to accommodate vital maintenance works.
From Monday, July 6, the A47 will close from 8pm to 6am between Junction 17 (the Bretton Way Interchange) and the Eye Green Roundabout.
Along with resurfacing, the closures are being implemented to enable the renewal of road markings and road signs, drainage works and general routine maintenance to be carried out safely.
While the actual works being carried out will only take place overnight, a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour will be imposed 24 hours daily. This will be in effect on the eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 17 Bretton Way Interchange to the western side of Eye Green Roundabout.
The works, which are expected to last for approximately four months, will take place in the following phases:
- Eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at J17 to the western side of J20 Dogsthorpe/Paston Parkway Roundabout – diverting traffic westbound on the A47 to exit at J15 then via the A1260, A1139 and A15 to join the A47 at J20 Dogsthorpe/Paston Parkway Roundabout,
- Eastbound and westbound carriageways from the eastern side of J20 Dogsthorpe/ Paston Parkway Roundabout to the western side of Welland Road Roundabout – diverting eastbound traffic to exit the A47 at J20 Dogsthorpe/Paston Parkway Roundabout then via the A15, Eye Road and A1139 to join the A47 westbound at Hodney Road Roundabout to Welland Road Roundabout, westbound vice versa,
- Eastbound and westbound carriageways between Welland Road Roundabout and Hodney Road Roundabout – diverting eastbound traffic westbound on the A47 to J20 Dogsthorpe/Paston Parkway Roundabout, then via the A15, Eye Road and A1139 to Hodney Road Roundabout, westbound vice versa,
- Eastbound and westbound carriageways between Hodney Road Roundabout and Eye Green Roundabout – diverting eastbound traffic at Hodney Road Roundabout via the A1139, A605 and A141 to join the A47 westbound at Guyhirn Roundabout to Eye Green Roundabout, westbound vice versa.
During the works, all slip roads adjacent to the lengths of closed carriageways will themselves be closed.
Diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
These closures are only likely to add to potential torment for local motorists, with the A47 also set to close overnight (8pm to 6am) from Guyhirn Roundabout to Redmoor Lane roundabout from Tuesday, June 9 to Wednesday, August 12, Monday to Friday.
