A 22-year-old man from Peterborough has been jailed for 19 months after trying to steal two televisions from Currys in Maskew Avenue Retail Park.

Hamza Siraj, from Cavendish Street in Eastfield, was already under a five-year criminal behaviour order after being convicted of 22 other shoplifting offences.

He was sentenced to nineteen months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on 26th September.

He's now been banned from Maskey Avenue Retail Park; any Co-op or Tesco in Peterborough; and the Morrisons in Lincoln Road, Werrington.

Hamza also cannot enter any store with any type of bag under his criminal behaviour order.

Police Constable Joe Malton said: “Siraj has had a significant impact on businesses across Peterborough, having been convicted of 36 shoplifting-related offences this year.

"I hope this result and CBO gives reassurance that we are working hard to tackle retail crime.”
