A shoplifter who stole more than £1,400 worth of perfume in Peterborough has been jailed.

Soma Deasley, 37, entered Boots, in Bretton Centre, on 24 May, and stole 12 perfumes.

He also targeted Co-ops in Thorpe Road, Longthorpe, on 31 August, and Loxley Centre, in Werrington, on 26 August and 1 September, stealing items such as Champagne, ice cream and coffee.

Deasley, of no fixed address, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (2 September), where he was jailed for 18 weeks after admitting five counts of theft from shop - including the theft of various items from BP filling station in Bretton, on 29 May.

He must also pay £1579.15 in compensation.

PC Josh Westgate, who investigated, said: “Deasley is a prolific offender in Peterborough, who has already had 25 shoplifting convictions this year.

“I would like to thank the businesses who continue to help us by reporting incidents.”
