A Peterborough man is starting a marathon climb up Mount Snowdon today, aiming for as many ascents as possible in 30 hours.

Jack Clarke aims to cover more than 116 kilometres of distance and 8,600 metres in elevation.

He is raising money to buy devices that help non-verbal children communicate.

It was after Jack was introduced to a boy called Joshie, an 11-year-old who doesn’t speak but communicates boldly using a device called a talker, which is speech software installed on an iPad.

'I was just gobsmacked of how much of an impact that has'

Jack says watching Joshie tap out words, jokes, and even feelings changed something in him.

"I saw how Joshie was communicating with his dad and I was just gobsmacked of how much of an impact that has," Jack said.

"There's currently about 350 families on the waiting list of the NHS to look at some form of resource whether that's speech therapy or a device.

"I measure the success of what I achieve this weekend based on how many people have been able to benefit from it or be inspired from it."

Jack has so far raised more than £4,000 for the 'Let Them Have Their Voices' campaign.
