Peterborough man jailed after driving on pavement to flee police
33-year-old Liam Monds caught the attention of officers in Peterborough
A man who drove dangerously along a pavement near a school to get away from police has been jailed.
33-year-old Liam Monds caught the attention of officers in Peterborough last September when they suspected the Audi A5 he was driving was on false plates.
When they approached him in a car park near Stanground Academy, he reversed at speed onto the pavement, drove across a pedestrian crossing and made off.
Police later recovered the abandoned car in Cardea and CCTV showed Monds running away.
He was arrested a week later in Stamford and charged with dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
Monds, of Bythorn Road, Stanground, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday (3 September) where he was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison and banned from driving for eighteen months.
PC Charlie Adams, from the Neighbourhood Support Team, said: “Monds had no regard for the people he put at risk by driving over a pedestrian only zone, and I am glad he was arrested before anyone was seriously hurt.”
