Peterborough man jailed after series of assaults and threats against former partner
Cambridgeshire Crown Court hears month-long campaign of abuse left victim with repeated injuries
A man who subjected his former partner to repeated acts of violence and intimidation over the course of a month has been sentenced to 42 weeks in prison.
Kieran Jones, 37, launched the first attack in the early hours of 30 November at the woman's home in Paston, where he struck her across the face, leaving her with a swollen lip.
Just days later, on 4 December, he assaulted her again at the same address by punching and spitting at her, causing another injury to her lip.
The abuse continued on 13 December after the pair went out for a meal. Following an argument, Jones got behind the wheel of a car and allegedly threatened to drive into the victim by revving the engine in her direction.
On 30 December, he threw a drinks can at the woman before spitting at her during another confrontation. Despite suffering only minor physical injuries, the victim endured a series of assaults over several weeks.
Jones, of Hawthorn Road, Folksworth, near Peterborough, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on 22 June, where he admitted four counts of assault. He also pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, although no separate sentence was imposed for that offence. He received nine penalty points on his driving licence.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a restraining order preventing Jones from contacting the victim until 2031.
DC Emily Richardson, who investigated, said: “Jones carried out a horrible campaign violence against the victim so it’s great he’s been brought to justice.
"I hope he’ll reflect on his actions in prison and think again about behaving this way again in future.”
