Robert Hill, 46, from Gunthorpe, Peterborough, has been sentenced to two years in jail after admitting to setting fire to his own home.

Police and firefighters were called to Hill's property on 9th May after smoke and flames were spotted coming from the house.

Hill was inside the home with another family member at the time and was found by officers with two lighters on his person.

DC Nat Cook, who led the investigation, said: “The consequences of Hill’s reckless actions could have been catastrophic, and he is seriously lucky no-one was harmed in the blaze.”

Cook added, “The fire was deliberate and put himself and a family member in serious danger, so I am pleased the sentence reflects the damage and distress he caused.”
