Peterborough's Local Plan referred back to Cabinet after scrutiny committee call-in
Concerns over decision-making prompt further review of development strategy
Peterborough's Local Plan has been referred back to Cabinet following a call-in by the Economy, Inclusive Growth and Environment Scrutiny Committee on 15th September.
The plan, crucial for guiding future planning decisions, faced scrutiny over concerns raised by the Conservative group regarding the decision-making process used during its approval for consultation in August.
The Local Plan identifies development areas and aims to balance growth with environmental protection and public interest. However, committee members expressed dissatisfaction over the consultation procedures, citing poor decision-making and lack of council oversight as risks.
The committee's call-in was upheld, requiring the Cabinet to review the decision, with recommendations suggesting immediate referral to Full Council.
The matter will be reassessed at a Cabinet meeting scheduled for 1st October.
Councillor Numan Ali Iqbal, cabinet member for growth and regeneration, acknowledged the importance of the Local Plan and reinforced its significance for sustainable growth tailored to community needs.
Previous consultations on the plan have shaped proposals for development around Peterborough, with ongoing discussions to refine these strategies.
