Peterborough families' summer struggles eased thanks to council
A summer holiday activities and food programme for children is being run
A council is helping parents in Peterborough cope with the struggles of the summer holidays.
Peterborough City Council (PCC) is running a Summer Holiday Activities and Food programme for local children.
'It's one less worry for a family'
The aim of the programme is to enable children to be active over the school holidays, eat healthily, and learn more about health and nutrition.
The council says it also gives children the chance to take part in fun, engaging and enriching activities.
During the summer school holidays, eligible children can access up to 16 four-hour sessions at no cost to their family.
“I'm delighted that once again we are offering so many different activities throughout the summer holidays for children of all ages," Councillor Katy Cole, PCC cabinet member for children’s services, said:
"As we know, the summer holidays can feel like a very long month when you're trying to provide entertainment and meals for your young people.
"People's pockets aren't as deep as they used to be, and they could be struggling financially."
"So knowing that your child can go to an activity where they can get that meal means it's one less worry for a family."

Activities like football, swimming, den building and gardening are included in the programme, and a healthy meal is provided.
The scheme provides activities and healthy food for primary and secondary school-aged children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, who are in receipt of free school meals.
