A Peterborough man who was twice caught dealing a cocktail of drugs has been jailed for eight years.

Umear Akhtar, 28, was in a property in Park Road, Peterborough, on 30 June 2022 when officers responded to reports of concern for someone.

Once inside, officers discovered large quantities of class A and B drugs worth up to £42,000, including cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and cannabis.

They also found nearly £6,000 in cash hidden in various places.

The person police were concerned about was not at the property.

Akhtar was arrested, an investigation was conducted and he was charged with ten drug-related offences.

He initially denied the charges when he appeared in court and was released to attend further hearings.

Then, on 2 August this year, officers on patrol in Scalford Drive, Welland, spotted a suspected drug user get into a BMW Akhtar was driving.

When they conducted a stop search they found cannabis, MDMA, cocaine and nitrous oxide cannisters in the vehicle.

While the car was being searched, two mobile phones belonging to Akhtar received multiple notifications that were later identified as relating to drug dealing.

Akhtar’s arrest was part of Operation RedWolf, an initiative led by the Neighbourhood Support Team in Peterborough. It aims to disrupt county lines drug networks and safeguard vulnerable people that may be exploited as a result.

He admitted two counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine, MDMA and cannabis, as well as possession with intent to supply ketamine, three counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, two counts of possession with intent to supply class B drugs, being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

Akhtar, of Ashcroft Gardens, Eastfield, Peterborough, was jailed at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday.

DC Lloyd Davis said: “Akhtar’s persistent criminal behaviour showed a disregard for the law and the harm drugs cause in our communities.

“Despite being arrested and charged for serious offences, he continued to deal drugs while going through the court process.

“This sentence reflects the severity of the case, and I hope sends a strong message that we will pursue relentlessly those who profit from drug dealing.”
