Peterborough driver topped 100mph in 15-minute pursuit
Alfred Stanley, 45, has been jailed for 14 months
A man has been jailed and banned from driving, after he led officers on a 15-minute pursuit and clocked more than 100mph on rural roads.
Alfred Stanley, 45, made off after seeing a police patrol car as he drove out of a building site in Ugg Mere Court Road, Ramsey Heights, near Ramsey, in the early hours of 5 October.
He drove at speeds of 110mph on rural roads, swerved in front of cars, drove through red lights, and went the wrong way round a roundabout.
After 15 minutes, he finally came to a stop and reversed into the police car in Lincoln Road, Werrington, Peterborough.
Checks on police systems revealed he had been disqualified from driving until 22 October after he accrued 21 points on his licence. His vehicle was also uninsured.
Stanley, of Sunnymead, Werrington, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday (7 November) where he admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, damaging property, and failing to comply with a serious crime prevention order – after he was found in possession of bolt croppers.
He was jailed for 14 months and handed a 45-month driving ban.
DC Callum Fullwood, who investigated, said: “Stanley’s driving was extremely dangerous, and not to stop for police was an act of stupidity, that could have resulted in a serious collision.”
