A man who was already banned from driving has been jailed after driving dangerously in a bid to escape police officers.

42-year-old Anthony Smith was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe on Northey Road, near Fengate, near Peterborough, on 3rd July, when officers in an unmarked car signalled for him to stop.

Instead, Smith turned the car around and sped off, before driving into a nearby farmer's field and running away.

He was arrested hiding in undergrowth and taken into custody.

Smith, of Crown Street, New England, Peterborough, admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was jailed for 16 months at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, 7th October.
