Peterborough Cathedral's historic Norman Arch has fallen victim to an act of vandalism, with graffiti being sprayed onto the centuries-old structure.

The Cathedral representatives expressed their frustration over the damage via a social media post, highlighting that the defaced arch is not merely stonework but a part of a remarkable building that has survived wars, fires, and the test of time for over 900 years.

The cost of removing the graffiti and repairing the affected area is estimated to surpass £1,000.

Specialist conservation efforts are required to clean the historic stone to prevent further deterioration due to the graffiti's presence.

Authorities urge anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to get in touch.
