Luke Edwards, a 37-year-old from Essendyke, Bretton, Peterborough, has been sentenced to 52 months in prison following a series of thefts and burglaries in Peterborough.

Edwards' crime spree included attempting car door handles in Oxclose, Bretton on 14th January, where he and an accomplice managed to steal items from a Skoda Superb after initially leaving empty-handed.

On 12th February, Edwards broke into a van near Peterborough Cathedral, stealing a bank card and designer trainers. The victim soon received alerts of transactions made with the stolen card in the city centre.

Edwards was caught on CCTV using another stolen bank card and attempting car door handles in New England, breaching a criminal behaviour order from Cambridge Magistrates’ Court.

His offences continued with the theft of a bicycle from a shed in Langley, Bretton, on 18th February.

The spree culminated in him stealing keys for a grey Vauxhall Astra from a property in Enfield Gardens, Netherton, and driving away with the vehicle in the early hours of 1st March.

Two hours later, police located Edwards in the parked car, using incapacitant spray during his resistant arrest.

Edwards pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including theft from a motor vehicle, fraud, burglary, motor vehicle interference, and breaching a criminal behaviour order.

DC Hannah Worthington remarked, “Edwards was relentless, seemingly with little thought to the impact his crimes were having on other people. I’m pleased he was identified, admitted these offences and has now been jailed.”
