Dean Jackson, a 43-year-old man from Werrington, Peterborough, has been sentenced to a year in jail after stealing alcohol from two local supermarkets.

Jackson targeted Tesco on Staniland Way, Werrington, on 28th July, followed by Sainsbury’s on Oxney Road, Parnwell, on 15th August.

He was apprehended on Friday, 25th September, and subsequently admitted the offences at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court the following day.

Alongside the jail sentence, Jackson has been ordered to pay £294.74 in compensation.

This conviction also saw the activation of a suspended sentence Jackson received in November for previous shoplifting offences and for threatening shop staff with a knife.

Detective Constable George Corney, who led the investigation, commented: "Jackson was handed an opportunity to change his behaviour, but completely ignored this second chance and kept on offending."

Despite prior opportunities for rehabilitation, Jackson's persistent offending has resulted in his incarceration, with law enforcement taking a firm stance on repeat offenders to maintain public safety and order.
