A Peterborough man has been jailed after launching a campaign of intimidation against his former partner in an attempt to force her to withdraw domestic violence allegations.

Adrian Duke, 37, of Russell Street, Peterborough, was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (11 April) after pleading guilty to intimidating a witness or juror.

Between September and December 2024, Duke made more than 400 calls to his ex-partner over the course of just three days. In a further attempt to pressure her, he hid inside her home during a police visit and threatened her with violent consequences if she proceeded with her statement.

As a result of Duke’s coercive behaviour, the victim initially withdrew the charges. However, she later confided in officers, revealing the extent of Duke’s threats and manipulation.

Detective Constable Isabelle Wilding, who led the investigation, praised the victim’s bravery in coming forward.

She said: “The victim believed that she had no other option but to drop the charges she initially brought against Duke, fearing violent consequences if she didn’t.

“Everyone should feel able to contact the police without fearing the repercussions. This sentence not only means justice has been done, but will hopefully allow the victim to move on with her life.”

Police have reiterated their commitment to supporting victims of domestic abuse and urged anyone experiencing coercion or intimidation to come forward.
