Officer struck by car in Oakham as police arrest man in investigation
Police probe January incident leading to new arrest
A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm after a Leicestershire Police officer was struck by a car in Oakham.
The incident took place on 26th January at around 3.10pm on High Street.
Officers approached a grey Honda CRV that was illegally parked, and the driver allegedly drove towards one of the officers, causing him to land on the vehicle's bonnet and then onto the pavement.
The officer sustained minor injuries.
The Honda subsequently collided with two stationary vehicles before fleeing the scene, later being found abandoned on Harrington Way.
Leicestershire Police have been conducting several enquiries over the past five months to identify the suspect.
Detective Inspector Jim Willoughby said, "For the past five months, officers have continued to work to identify and locate the person responsible for this incident.
Luckily the officer was not seriously injured, but this doesn’t take away from the fact that he was driven at and hit by a car in order for the man to evade police.
Today we have made an arrest in connection with the offence and the man in custody will now be questioned."
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the force.
