Additional ‘no waiting’ restrictions have been recommended for approval for a road after visibility and congestion concerns were raised.

Members of Lincolnshire County Council’s planning and regulation committee recommended that the waiting restrictions on Roman Bank in Stamford to be approved, at a meeting yesterday (Monday, January 12).

Under the plans, the existing ‘no waiting’ restriction will be extended from the Roman Bank and Tinwell Road junction.

A ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction has been proposed on Roman Bank at its junctions with Tinwell Road Lane, St Clement’s, Exeter Gardens and Queen’s Walk.

An additional ‘no waiting’ between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday has been proposed on Roman Bank at its approach to Tinwell Road.

The plans are in response to concerns from residents on Tinwell Road Lane who say that on-street parking is making it difficult to exit the lane and reducing visibility along Roman Bank.

Some residents have also raised concerns about congestion on Tinwell Road and traffic queueing further along Roman Bank.

The county council said there have been two reported ‘injury accidents’ on Tinwell Road at the junction with Roman Bank in the last five years.

The authority said it has received an objection in relation to a lack of a ‘no waiting’ restriction between house numbers 45 and 47 in Roman Bank, saying that the removal of parking there would make it easier to access the properties.

The county council said it has modified the original proposal to accommodate for this and an additional ‘no waiting’ restriction between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday has been implemented there.

Coun Martin Hill (Conservative – Folkingham Rural) said: “This is a very busy cut-through and it’s a very narrow road, although it’s busy.

“If two people parked either side opposite each other, it would actually block the road so there is almost an element of self-policing here.

“I think I do support these recommendations because all the houses there have limited frontages on the road from on the west and on the east side, all the houses, I believe, have quite substantial off-street parking.”

Coun Charlotte Vernon (Conservative – Colterworth Rural) said she also supported the extension of ‘no waiting’ restrictions.

She said: “I actually know this road quite well and I do travel it so I do understand first-hand the issues that are experienced on this road.

“I think this proposal is a sensible first point and I would agree with Councillor Hill’s comments that I do have a slight concern that it’s going to displace the issue further up the road.”

Coun Vernon went on to say that the new restrictions would help improve road safety.

She added: “I think fundamentally the point that nobody mentioned so far is that there have been two injury accidents that have happened on this road and again we do have a responsibility to make sure these roads are safe to travel down.”

Councillors have recommended that the proposed ‘no waiting’ restrictions should be approved and the executive councillor for highways and transport will sign it off at a later date.
