Leicestershire Police has announced the appointment of Inspector Rowan Paterson-Bell as the new Neighbourhood Policing Area Commander for Melton and Rutland.

Inspector Paterson-Bell brings over 22 years of experience with Leicestershire Police, having worked across operational and neighbourhood policing.

His leadership role follows the retirement of Inspector Darren Richardson, who is stepping down after 17 years of dedicated service.

Inspector Richardson has been instrumental in strengthening neighbourhood policing within the region, leaving behind robust foundations for future growth.

Inspector Paterson-Bell expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying, "I'm really pleased to be taking over as the Neighbourhood Policing Area Commander for Melton and Rutland."

Having started his career at Syston, he later moved to Loughborough and has held various positions, including as a qualified detective with East Leicester CID and the force's Domestic Abuse Investigation Team.

As a resident of Melton, Inspector Paterson-Bell is focused on visibility, engagement, and effective crime prevention, aiming to tackle issues such as drug dealing, shoplifting, and enhancing rural policing.

He thanked the community for their continued support during this transition and extended his best wishes to Inspector Richardson in his retirement.

Reflecting on his career, Inspector Richardson expressed gratitude for the roles and colleagues he has worked alongside over the years.

His last day in service will be 15th May, marking the end of a notable tenure.

Inspector Richardson said: "I leave with real pride in what we do, and real confidence in the team that remains."

Community leaders have praised Inspector Richardson's commitment to partnership work and effective policing strategies, highlighting his impactful contributions to local safety and community networks.

Melton Borough Council and Rutland County Council leaders acknowledged the positive outcomes achieved through Richardson's leadership and expressed encouragement for continued collaboration under Inspector Paterson-Bell.

Inspector Paterson-Bell is expected to maintain high standards in neighbourhood policing while safeguarding partnerships with local authorities.

Leicestershire Police welcomes Inspector Paterson-Bell and thanks Inspector Richardson for his service, wishing him well in his retirement.
