A convicted murderer who was jailed for killing his sister-in-law has added four years onto his sentence after stabbing a prison officer.

28-year-old Moustapha Dia stabbed the officer with a plastic knife whilst he was locking doors on the wing of HMP Whitemoor, near March.

Dia whispered something to him before grabbing him into a headlock.

He stabbed him in the head, face and neck, and didn't stop until another officer managed to disarm him.

The officer was treated at Peterborough City Hospital for concussion and cuts.

Dia was found guilty of being in possession of an offensive weapon in prison and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Investigating officer DC Emma Purser said the attack was a cowardly one: “This was a ferocious and cowardly attack by Dia, who targeted a prison officer much smaller in stature than him.

“Luckily the officer was only left with superficial injuries, but the intent was there to do much worse."

She went on to say the attack will no doubt have a lasting psychological impact on the victim.
