Operation Hypernova targets county lines drug dealing
Last updated 5th Oct 2026
Three men have been convicted for their involvement in operating four county drug lines between Sheffield and Peterborough.
Bassam Sahraee, Karukh Awat Mohamadi, and Rayan Hama-Aziz were apprehended in Sheffield in February 2024 during Operation Hypernova, which focused on disrupting county lines drug distribution across Cambridgeshire.
Detectives connected the trio to controlling phones that were used to send messages offering cocaine to drug users in Peterborough from September 2023 to February 2024.
They subsequently directed others in the city to distribute the drugs.
Following a 12-day trial at Cambridge Crown Court in September, Sahraee and Mohamadi were found guilty of being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possession of criminal property.
Hama-Aziz was found guilty of being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
Sahraee, 30, from Martin Street, Sheffield, received a sentence of six years and six months in prison, while Hama-Aziz, 25, from Holmes Way, Peterborough, was sentenced to three years and six months.
Mohamadi, 25, from Benwell Grange, Newcastle upon Tyne, failed to appear in court, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.
Detective Constable Oliver Campbell, who led the investigation, commented, “These men were exploiting vulnerable people and bringing harmful substances into our communities for their own financial gain. We will continue to target those involved in drug supply and disrupt their criminal activity.”
