McDonald’s in Walton seeks council approval to continue 24/7 operation

Application aims to offset earlier planning permission constraints

The McDonald's Drive Thru restaurant situated at Morrisons supermarket near Brotherhood Retail Park in Peterborough is seeking permission to maintain its 24/7 trading hours.

Submitted by Savills real estate services, the application requests Peterborough City Council to allow the restaurant’s continued around-the-clock operation.

This request aims to counteract the previous planning permission awarded in 2024, which stipulated that the restaurant must revert to non-24/7 opening times after two years: “Within 24 months of the date of this decision the site shall cease operating 24 hours, 7 days per week.”

The new application highlights the positive aspects of the 24-hour operation, stating that during the temporary period, no issues were reported by the public or the Council regarding noise or anti-social behaviour.

Savills emphasises the restaurant's ability to meet customer demands and enhance efficiency with around-the-clock trading.

Documents note that extending the 24/7 operations would better serve the established customer base.

Currently, the status of the application is 'Awaiting Allocation' by the council’s Planning Services department.
