Man jailed for more than two years after violent attack on partner
It happened in July 2025
A man has been jailed, for more than two years, after violently attacking his partner.
Callum Liddle, 38, of no fixed abode and of the Peterborough area, flew into a rage after the victim received a text message from a man on 19 July last year.
As the victim got up from a chair, Liddle stood in front of her, blocking the door, before pushing her with both hands.
She stumbled backwards, but Liddle grabbed her by the hair and pushed her into bookshelves before throwing her to the floor and forcefully kicking her in the back three times.
He then got on top of the victim and pinned her down, placing his knees on her chest.
While covering her nose and mouth with one hand, he poured cider over her face with the other, causing it to enter her eyes and leaving her struggling to breathe.
The victim managed to grab an object and strike Liddle in the face, allowing her to escape.
Liddle pleaded guilty to intentional suffocation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).
He also admitted assault by beating in relation to a separate incident against a different victim in May last year.
At Peterborough Crown Court on 7 August, Liddle was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison. He was also handed a ten-year restraining order.
Charges of threats to damage property, threats to kill and intentional strangulation were ordered to lie on file.
Detective Constable Kate Jacklin said: “This was a prolonged and violent attack during which Liddle repeatedly assaulted the victim and deliberately restricted her breathing.
“His actions demonstrated a complete disregard for her safety and left her fearing for her life.
