A man, who launched an unprovoked attack on a passer-by in a Peterborough street, has been jailed for more than three years.
Corey Davis, 34, punched the man several times in Park Road on 23 June, causing him to fall to the ground.
While the man, who he did not know, was on the floor, Davis began to strangle him, before he managed to break free.
Davis continued to pursue him, until another member of the public intervened and police were called.
When officers attended and arrested Davis, he shouted racist abuse at another passer-by.
Davis, of Eastfield Road, Peterborough, admitted racially aggravated harassment, but denied intentional strangulation and assault by beating.
However, he was found guilty of both counts, after a trial at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court in August.
Yesterday (1 October), at Cambridge Crown Court, he was jailed for three years and six months.
Detective Constable Edward Darby said: “This was a shocking and completely unprovoked attack, on a man who was simply walking down the street.
“Davis acted appallingly and subjected the victim to what was an extremely distressing experience.
“I’m pleased he was apprehended at the scene and has now been jailed for his actions.”
