A Peterborough crack cocaine dealer has avoided jail after being caught running from police with drugs.

James Zimmerman, 53, suspiciously turned and walked away when he was spotted by an officer in Peterborough city centre on 24 February.

He began to run off as the officer shouted after him, and dropped a small bag.

Zimmerman was arrested on Lincoln Road after a short foot chase.

Officers found class A drugs, a mobile phone and nearly £400 in cash on him.

In the bag, they found multiple small packs of class A drugs.

Two mobile phones were also found in his car.

His home in Gladstone Street was searched not long after where crack cocaine worth around £1,880 and drug dealing paraphernalia was discovered.

The 53-year-old has been handed a 21 month prison sentence suspended for two years after admitting being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine.
