Jail for Peterborough Driver Who Fled Traffic Officers
Man Sentenced After High-Speed Chase and Failed Breath Test
A thirty three year old man who sped away from traffic officers in Peterborough city centre has been jailed for almost a year.
Liam Monds was driving a silver Volkswagen Golf when officers spotted him at around half past ten at night on the twenty ninth of April.
He drove above the speed limit, made abrupt lane changes, and circled roundabouts several times before officers tried to stop him in London Road, Fletton. Monds took off but was caught after a short foot chase in Melrose Drive, where he failed a breathalyser test.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court, Monds admitted to failing to stop, drink driving, driving without insurance or a licence, dangerous driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and resisting an officer.
He was jailed for forty two weeks and given a three year driving ban.
Police say his actions put people at risk and remind the public there is a confidential hotline to report suspected drink drivers.
