Jail for driver who made off from officers in Peterborough

A driver who made off from traffic officers in Peterborough has been jailed for almost a year.
Liam Monds, 33, was driving a silver Volkswagen Golf in the city centre when he caught the attention of traffic officers at about 10.30pm on 29 April.
Monds drove round roundabouts numerous times, made abrupt lane changes, and drove above the speed limit.
The officers tried to stop him in London Road, Fletton, but he drove off and eventually came to a stop in Melrose Drive, Fletton.
Officers arrested him following a short foot chase and he failed a breathalyser test.
Monds, of Henson Drive, Hempstead, Peterborough, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday 1 May, where he admitted to failing to stop, drink driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, dangerous driving, driving without a seatbelt, and resisting an officer.
He was jailed for 42 weeks and handed a three-year driving disqualification.
PC Sam Shepherd, who investigated, said: “There is no excuse when it comes to getting behind the wheel whilst intoxicated, and Monds’ manner of driving put people at risk.”
