HGV driver dies after crash on A1 near Great Casterton

An HGV driver has died after his vehicle left the A1 near Great Casterton.

Police were called to the southbound carriageway at 11.18am on Friday, May 1, after the lorry left the road and came to rest in a ditch.

The driver, believed to be a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.

The southbound carriageway between Stamford and Great Casterton remains closed while emergency services deal with the incident, with traffic being diverted.

The northbound carriageway, which was also closed earlier, has since reopened.

Police are now appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the collision or the moments leading up to it.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 234 of May 1.
