Fresh plans have been unveiled for Peterborough's new pool
New leisure centre aims to be “people’s pool” and accessible for all
A fresh look at Peterborough’s new swimming pool and leisure centre has been revealed.
Residents got the chance to see detailed plans at Sand Martin House yesterday, with designers focused on making the centre easy to use for everyone.
Councillor Zameer Ali says the event was all about gathering feedback from the public:
“This is what the whole purpose is – to get the general public in to be able to get their ideas and also see what they like and what they dislike as well,” he explained.
Building work is set to start in January 2027 with hopes the facility will open in September 2028.
Councillor Ali says it’s designed for everyone, not just city leaders:
“This is a people’s pool. It’s for the general public. It’s not for the councillors to use, it’s for people to use, and we really want to bring back that idea of that regional pool feeling that we had and we’ve lost.”
A special focus has been put on accessibility, with features to help anyone with mobility issues.
“It's really well designed and I think it’s going to be absolutely brilliant. I think this will take us to another level again,” Councillor Ali added.
