Family thanks zoo staff after boy injured in crocodile enclosure
Three-year-old boy continues recovery after incident in Cambridgeshire
The family of a three-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a crocodile enclosure at a zoo in Cambridgeshire have expressed gratitude for the staff's rescue efforts.
The incident took place at Johnsons of Old Hurst on 18th June, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man from Norfolk on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police later bailed the suspect, stating he was not fit for interview.
The boy remains hospitalised at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in a stable condition, facing a long recovery period.
In a statement through Cambridgeshire Police, the family thanked the zoo staff for rescuing their son and extended their appreciation for public support and those involved in aiding his recovery.
"Our attention remains focused on his recovery and supporting him through this extremely challenging and prolonged period of time," the family said.
According to police, the boy was injured by a crocodile after entering the enclosure, with staff rushing to pull him out.
Tracey Johnson, the co-owner of the zoo, reportedly jumped into the enclosure to save the child.
Following medical treatment at the scene, the boy was taken to hospital.
A fundraising page has been set up to assist in the child's recovery and rehabilitation, providing financial support to the family during this time.
Any excess funds will be donated to charities and Addenbrooke’s Trust organisations.
